Witney Mills Sports and Social Club
Situation On the north side of Newland in Witney, almost opposite Newland
House and the site of Newland Mill.
History This building was erected in the 1950s by Early's and its
employees on the corner of Newland cricket ground. The Chairman
of the company speaking in 1959 said 'this new venture is - like
profit sharing - helping to foster a good team spirit'. It was a
joint project financed by the subscription money of the new
members (drawn from company employees) and grants from the
company. The labour for building it was also provided from among
the members. Sporting teams from the mills met here including
cricket, football and bowls, and the venue was also used for
many social gatherings.
