Vera Green (on the right) is pictured here at 18 years old with
colleague Daisy Sanders seated at their looms; they both lived
at South Leigh. Vera worked as a weaver at Bridge Street Mill,
then at Mount Mill and finally Witney Mill during the 1960s. She
married Louis Langford who was valet and chauffeur to Dr Harris
the Vicar of South Leigh; their married home was on the High
Street in Witney where they had an outside toilet, no hot water,
bath or electric lighting. Vera retired in 1973 with a pension
of £2.40 a month.
