The Worsham Blanket Company
Worsham Mill in 1972 (copyright Stanley C. Jenkins).
Dates of operation: 1918(c)
After Pritchett and Webley ceased blanket making just before the
First World War, Worsham Mill was taken over by George Howitt,
who had inherited a substantial interest in the site as part of
a wedding present from his father-in-law in 1903. He sold it to
Norman E. Minty during the war for £1000. Initially Minty turned
production over to tent-making, but when demand for tents died
out after the war he founded the 'Worsham Blanket Company'. The
company had very little success, and sold out to Marriott and
Sons in 1924 [1].
